What is CAD/CAM?

Dentists can create customized fittings of crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays and other dental restorations using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM). Through the CAD/CAM technology, we can provide you with the most precise restorations possible.

By using CAD/CAM, we are able to create durable, well-fitting, individual or multiple-tooth restorations. CAD/CAM technology also delivers advantages when it comes to office visits. Traditional tooth restorations may take several days and multiple office visits, but with CAD/CAM technology, we are able to perform single-visit tooth restorations! In just one visit you can have a beautiful, healthy smile.

CEREC technology is such a CAD/CAM system. CEREC (Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic) is made up of many computer-assisted design (CAD) tools and a milling machine that gives dentists the ability to create custom-made ceramic restorations in little time.

Maidu Dental | Auburn, CA | Dentistry CAD/CAM

Many years ago, dentists did not have many options to repair decayed and damaged teeth other than gold, amalgam and other metals. With CEREC, we can use strong, tooth-colored ceramic materilas to restore your teeth to their natural strength, beauty and function. These materials closely match the composition of the natural tooth structure. This means when you eat hot food and then drink something cold, the restoration and tooth expand and contract at almost equal rates, reducing the risk of tooth cracking. The materials are  bonded (glued) to your tooth, so we can save as much healthy tooth tissue as possible while providing you with a dental restoration that strengthens your tooth. The result is a beautiful, long-lasting, durable, bio-compatible and conveniently processed restoration (in only one visit).
